APPENDIX B

Terms associated with

the analytic–holistic distinction

Appendix B helps to clarify information presented in Chapters 9 and 10. First, it defines and compares five pairs of mirror-image terms closely associated with scholarly research into analysis and holism (e.g., low-context – high context). Then it compares seventeen pairs of mirror-image terms loosely associated with analysis and holism, some arising from academic fields (e.g., quantitative – qualitative), others drawn from everyday conversation (e.g., logical – intuitive). Appendix B is available here.
